Our Mission
Wyldewoods is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote ecologically harmonious ways of living. Through practical demonstration and education we aim to foster community approaches to creating healthy habitats that can meet the needs of human and non-human inhabitants alike. Our mission is to demonstrate how we can both rewild our environment to benefit the wild animal and plant species of our bioregion and how we can use horticultural techniques and wild crafting to sustainably meet our own needs of food, fuel, fiber, medicines, and materials in ecologically regenerative ways.
We offer programs for children and adults in nature immersion and ecological literacy, as well as courses in practical techniques for living well from the land including forest gardening, permaculture design, no-till gardening, wildcrafting, wild foresting and more.
The Land
Wyldewoods is located on 75 acres of gently sloping land, bordered by the Catskill creek, in the hamlet of Preston Hollow, New York. Approximately one third of the land is covered by regenerating oak and hickory forest, with the remainder a patchwork of hay fields, old fields, abandoned orchards, wild hedge rows, farm ponds and springs, with an old farm house and large barn dating from the late 1800’s.
